Amboise

Before continuing this virtual stroll through France, I'd like to note Henry's achievement of eating in several of the castles belonging to the kings and nobility of France. Not everyone feels so at home in these places to just sit down and demand to be fed. Maybe the Big H's for King Henri II got to his head.

On to Amboise. Not too many realize that Paris was for long stretches not the seat of power of the French kings. Several Loire castles were the primary residences of the kings.
A little history for you: King Francis I was raised at Amboise, which belonged to his mother, Louise of Savoy. As a guest of the King, Leonardo da Vinci came to Château Amboise in December 1515 and lived and worked in the nearby Clos Lucé, connected to the château by an underground passage.
